Patriots Drop to 15th in Baseball Poll, Host Indians on Tuesday
FLORENCE, S.C. – Despite sweeping a three-game conference series this past weekend, the Francis Marion University baseball team dropped six positions to 15th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday (April 4).

The Patriots are 24-11-1, and have won 13 of their last 18 contests.   This is the sixth consecutive week the Patriots have appeared in the Top 30 poll.

FMU will play host to Newberry College (15-24) for an unusual doubleheader on Tuesday evening.  At 5 p.m., the two squads will resume a game that was suspended on Feb. 22 because of a power failure at the Newberry baseball complex.  Francis Marion is leading the game 7-0 with Newberry preparing to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning.  At the conclusion of that contest, the teams will play the regularly scheduled nine-inning game.

FMU will also entertain Catawba College (25-14) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., before traveling to Savannah, Ga., to face Armstrong Atlantic State University for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series this coming weekend.

With a 14-9-1 conference mark, the Patriots are fourth in the tightly packed PBC standings, only one-and-a-half games behind first-place University of North Florida (12-6) and USC Aiken (10-5).  Eight of FMU’s 11 losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents.

Five Peach Belt squads are listed in this week’s poll, including three in the Top 15.  Central Missouri State University (30-3) completed a 6-0 week to remain as the No. 1 ranked squad in this week’s poll.
