FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s basketball coach Valecia Tedder has announced the signing of Katie Kiefer
of Lilburn, Ga.
, to a national letter of intent to attend FMU and play for the Patriots this coming season.
Kiefer, a 5-10 forward, is a product of Parkview High School, where she played for coach Mike McCoy.
As a senior, she averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, while leading her team in three-point field goal percentage at 42 percent. Altogether, she shot 53.9 percent from the field as the Panthers posted an 11-11 record.
She was a member of the 2003 Panther squad that won the Georgia AAAAA state championship with a 30-3 record.
She has also participated on the Parkview volleyball and track and field squads.
“Katie can play either forward position,” said Tedder. “She possesses the ability to post up inside and also step out and shoot the three. She can handle the ball, has good anticipation, and is athletic enough to play and defend someone in the backcourt.”
Francis Marion lost three seniors from last season’s 11-17 squad that also included seven freshmen. The Patriots earlier announced the signing of 5-6 point guard Kirby Marsh of Lynchburg, Va.
