FLORENCE, S.C. – With the Top 10 unchanged from last week, Francis Marion University remained eighth for the third straight week according to the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday (May 9).
The Patriots ended their regular-season schedule on April 24 with a six-game winning streak and a 34-14-1 mark. Francis Marion is awaiting the May 15 announcement of the NCAA Division II national tournament field to see if the Patriots receive a post-season invitation. In last week’s South Atlantic Region poll, FMU was listed third.
This is the Patriots’ fourth straight week in the national Top 10, the fifth week in the Top 10 this season, and the 11th consecutive week the Patriots have appeared in the Top 30 poll. Seventh is the highest ranking FMU has ever attained.
Francis Marion’s 34 victories is the second-highest season total in team history. It is also FMU’s second 30-win season in the past three years, and the program’s seventh all-time.
With a 17-12-1 conference mark, the Patriots are third in the PBC standings. FMU has concluded its PBC slate, while some conference schools have one PBC series remaining. Eight of FMU’s 14 losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents.
Seven Peach Belt squads are listed in this week’s poll, including two in the Top 10. Delta State University (48-6) remained in the top spot in this week’s poll after winning both its games last week.
