FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University junior Kevin Taylor and sophomore Kamini Murugaboopathy have been named to the Peach Belt Conference men’s and women’s All-Conference tennis teams.
Taylor, a native of Benoni, South Africa, occupies the No. 1 singles position for FMU, and is ranked 15th among Division II singles players. He has compiled an 18-3 record, including an amazing 10-0 mark against Top 50 opponents. He also recorded a 16-5 doubles mark at the No. 1 slot. He was twice named the PBC “Player of the Week” during the 2005 season, and recently was named his squad’s most valuable player.
Taylor has helped lead the 22nd-ranked Patriots to a 17-5 record and a spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament, where the Patriots will play in one of two Mid-Atlantic Region Tournaments, May 5-6, in Savannah, Ga., on the campus of Armstrong Atlantic State University. The team’s season victory total is one win shy of the school record set in 1999 and 2000.
Murugaboopathy, a native of Chennai, India, played in the Patriots’ No. 1 singles spot and is ranked 33rd among Division II singles players. She compiled a 14-8 singles record, including a 3-3 mark against nationally ranked opponents and a 7-3 conference record. She also played No. 1 doubles and posted a 10-15 mark. She recently earned her team’s Gladys Hite M.V.P. Award for the second consecutive year.
The young Patriot women’s squad (no juniors or seniors) ended the year with a 10-15 record.
