FLORENCE, S.C. – Having already concluded its regular season, Francis Marion University remained eighth for the second straight week according to the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday (May 2).
The Patriots ended their regular-season schedule on April 24 with a six-game winning streak and a 34-14-1 mark. Francis Marion must now wait for the announcement of the NCAA Division II national tournament field, to be released on May 15, to see if the Patriots receive a post-season invitation. In last week’s South Atlantic Region poll, FMU was listed fourth.
This is the Patriots’ third straight week in the national Top 10, the fourth week in the Top 10 this season, and the 10th consecutive week the Patriots have appeared in the Top 30 poll. Seventh is the highest ranking FMU has ever attained.
Francis Marion’s 34 victories is the second-highest season total in team history. It is also FMU’s second 30-win season in the past three years, and the program’s seventh all-time.
With a 17-12-1 conference mark, the Patriots are third in the tightly packed PBC standings, approximately one game out of second place. FMU has concluded its PBC slate, while other conference schools have one or two PBC series remaining. Eight of FMU’s 14 losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents.
Six Peach Belt squads are listed in this week’s poll, including two in the Top 10. Delta State University (46-6) remained in the top spot in this week’s poll, despite losing one contest last week.
