FMU Adds Two Softball Players
FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Johnson has announced that two Pee Dee area products, Shawn Moore of Pamplico and outfielder Juliann Wiggins of Marion, will attend FMU and play for the Patriots in 2006.

Moore, a pitcher and infielder, is a product of Carolina Academy, where she played for coach Scotty Phillips.  This past season, she was named to the SCISA All-State Team and was selected to play in the SCISA North-South A-AA All-Star Game.

Wiggins, a pitcher and outfielder, is a graduate of Pee Dee Academy, where she played under the direction of coach Wes Daniels.  Wiggins is the younger sister of current FMU catcher Jamie Wiggins.

Wiggins also gained All-State honors in 2005 and was chosen to play in the SCISA North-South AAA All-Star Game at the conclusion of the season.  She has earned All-Conference honors numerous times and has twice been named her conference’s Most Valuable Player.  In 2000 as a 7th grader, she pitched the Lady Golden Eagles to a runner-up finish in the SCISA state tournament.

Francis Marion loses only two seniors off this past season’s 36-14 squad.  For the second year in a row, the Patriots narrowly missed earning a bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament.
