FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University men’s basketball head coach John Schweitz has announced that Florence native Neil Paul has joined his staff as an assistant coach.
Paul’s primary responsibilities will include recruiting, on-floor coaching, individual player workouts, pre- and post-season workouts, and helping in the area of academic support for team members.
Paul replaces Jay Hickson, who resigned after four seasons on the Patriot bench to pursue other career opportunities outside of coaching.
Paul, a 1999 Francis Marion graduate, had been serving as athletic coordinator for the Florence County Recreation Department for the past year.
He previously worked as a volunteer assistant for the Patriot hoops program in 2003 and as a student assistant coach for several years in the 1990s.
He has worked camps throughout the Southeast, in addition to camps at Ohio State University and the University of Notre Dame. He has also attended various coaching clinics, and worked for one year with Clemson University’s IPTAY scholarship fund.
Paul has been a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) since 1993.
Paul is a 1993 graduate of South Florence High School.
