FMU Baseball Team Adds Lefty Transfer

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced that left-handed pitcher Ryan Ariail of Columbia will transfer to FMU this fall and play for the Patriots in 2006.

Ariail, 6-4 and 200 pounds, will transfer from Presbyterian College, where he has played the past three seasons.

With the Blue Hose, he appeared in 39 career games, posting a 4-12 record with a 6.88 earned run average.  He struck out 97 batters in 124.1 innings pitched.  This past season, he led Presbyterian in innings pitched and strikeouts and was third on the squad in ERA.

This summer, he is playing with the Coastal Plain League’s Spartanburg Stingers.  He is 1-0 with a 2.38 ERA.

He is a former All-Region performer at Spring Valley High School, where he played for coach Keith Cooley.

The addition of Ariail brings to eight the number of players added for the upcoming 2006 FMU season.

Francis Marion loses five seniors off this past season’s nationally ranked 34-16-1 squad that made its second NCAA Division II national tournament appearance in three years.  The Patriots ended the year ranked 14th in the final NCAA Division II Collegiate Baseball Magazine Top 30 poll.
