FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University athletic director and men’s soccer coach Murray Hartzler was recently appointed chairman of the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Committee, which governs the Division II men’s soccer championships.
The committee is composed of eight members, one representing each of the Division II regions. He also served on the committee during the 2004-05 year.
Hartzler is in the midst of his 12th year as the head men’s soccer coach at FMU, and his 22nd season as a head coach at the collegiate level. Hartzler is also in his sixth year as Francis Marion’s athletic director.
Since joining the FMU staff in the spring of 1994, Hartzler has posted a 124-85-11 record, and is the winningest coach in the program’s 30-year history. Including 10 years as the head coach at Hiram College (Ohio), he owns a combined career coaching record of 210-146-32.
A native of Clarence, N.Y., Hartzler earned a B.A. degree in communications from Goshen College (Ind.) in 1980, and received a M.A. degree in physical education, recreation, and dance from Kent State University in 1991.
Hartzler is a United States Soccer Federation licensed coach and has an advanced national diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Every summer, he directs the FMU Soccer Camps program, which includes several camps in the Pee Dee area for various age groups and skill levels.
