FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s soccer and volleyball teams will take to the road this weekend, traveling in opposite directions on Interstate 95.
The 10-4 Patriot volleyball squad will travel south to Savannah, Ga., where FMU will play two matches in the Armstrong Atlantic State University Volleyball Clash. Francis Marion will face the University of West Georgia (9-4) on Saturday at 11 a.m. and seventh-ranked University of Tampa (12-2) on Sunday at noon.
The 1-2-0 Patriot women’s soccer team will play at East Carolina University on Sunday afternoon. The match will kick off at 2 p.m. on ECU’s Bunting Field and is being held amid Parent’s Weekend activities at the Greenville, N.C., school.
The Patriot men’s golf team will open its 2005-06 season on Monday, when FMU plays host to the 21st-annual Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament. Action will include 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday at the Country Club of South Carolina.
The tournament field consists of FMU, University of South Carolina, Charleston Southern University, Davidson College, Elon University, Gardner-Webb University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Liberty University, Old Dominion University, Western Carolina University, College of William & Mary, Georgia College & State University, and two-time defending Division II national champion USC Aiken.
This will be Francis Marion’s first intercollegiate golf competition since the program’s provisional bid to move to Division I was accepted by the NCAA.
The FMU men’s soccer team and men’s and women’s cross country squads will not be in action this weekend.
