FLORENCE, SC - The Francis Marion University men's and women's cross country teams will host the 17th-annual FMU Invitational Meet on Saturday morning (Sept. 24).
The meet will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the men’s race, followed by the women's 5,000-meter race at approximately 9:15 a.m. Admission is free.
Six schools are expected to participate: Lander University, Limestone College, Morris College, North Greenville College, Presbyterian College, and FMU.
The Francis Marion cross country course starts behind the Smith University Center near the FMU Track, and the finish line is located between the intramural athletic fields and Cormell (baseball) Field.
The FMU men have won their invitational seven of the past nine years, while the Patriot women have posted three first-place finishes (1997, 1998, 1999) and a pair of runner-up finishes (2000, 2001) in the past seven FMU Invitationals. The meet was not held in 2004 due to construction on the FMU campus.
Following the collegiate meet, the university will also play host to the eighth-annual Pee Dee High School Classic, beginning at approximately 10 a.m.
