FMU Teams Host Matches this Weekend vs. Bearcats

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men and women’s soccer teams as well as the women’s volleyball team will host matches against Lander University, Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon.

The 2-4-0 Patriot women’s soccer team will play Lander (3-6-0) on the FMU Soccer Field at 1 p.m.  Francis Marion will attempt to stay undefeated at home as a provisional member of the NCAA Division I, after winning its first home match earlier this week.  Francis Marion is also looking to stay undefeated against the Bearcats all-time, leading the series 7-0-0.

The Patriot men’s soccer team (6-4-0, 0-1-0) will take on Peach Belt Conference rival Lander (6-2-1, 1-0-0) on the FMU Soccer Field at 3:30 p.m.  Francis Marion will observe Florence Soccer Association Appreciation Day, and will recognize youth league teams at halftime.  The 21st-ranked Bearcat men lead the all-time series 26-8-2, but FMU will look to its leading scorer, sophomore Jonathan Bartomioli (five goals, five assists), to secure a PBC victory at home.

The Patriot volleyball team will also play host to PBC foe Lander on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Smith University Center.  Heading into Friday’s Peach Belt match with USC Upstate, Francis Marion was 13-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
