FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s soccer team will host a pair of matches this week, including YMCA Youth Soccer Day this weekend.
The 3-5-0 Patriots will entertain NAIA power Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday (Oct. 13) at 4 p.m., and will play host to Wingate University on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 4 p.m. Admission to both matches is free.
The first 50 YMCA youth soccer players to attend Saturday’s match will receive a free FMU Soccer water bottle. Players are encouraged to wear their team uniforms and they will be recognized at halftime. FMU team members will be available to sign autographs after the match.
Thursday’s opponent, Lindsey Wilson, is currently 9-2-1 and ranked third in the NAIA Top 20. The Blue Raiders won the 2004 NAIA national championship with a 19-0-6 record. In 2003, Lindsey Wilson scored an NAIA-record 162 goals en route to a 25-2-0 record and an appearance in the national title match.
Saturday’s opponent, Wingate, is 9-4-0 heading into a Wednesday match with St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
These two matches are among five straight home contests for the Patriots, who are in their first year as a provisional member of NCAA Division I.
