PBC Men's Soccer Tournament Pairings Announced

FLORENCE, S.C. – The pairings for the Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer tournament were announced on Monday. Seventh-seeded Francis Marion University will travel up Interstate 95 to face second-seeded UNC Pembroke, Wednesday (Nov. 2) at 7 p.m. in one of three first-round matches.

FMU finished its regular season with an 8-10-0 record following Saturday’s upset of 15th-ranked Catawba College. UNCP, the defending PBC Tournament champion and a participant in last year’s NCAA Division II Final Four, owns a 12-3-3 mark.

The two teams met last Wednesday in Florence, with UNCP claiming a 2-0 win. Francis Marion leads the all-time series 21-13-3.

Sophomore Jonathan Bartomioli leads the Patriots in scoring with seven goals and six assists. Senior goalkeeper Jonathan Runion has a 1.66 goals against average, and ranks first in the conference with 6.44 saves per match.

In the previous 14 PBC Tournaments, FMU owns a 9-13-1 record, including winning the 1999 tournament title. Francis Marion and UNCP have met four previous times in PBC Tournament competition, with the Patriots holding a 2-1-1 advantage.

In Wednesday’s other first-round matches, USC Upstate (11-2-2) hosts USC Aiken (2-12-2) at 7 p.m. and Lander University (10-3-3) hosts North Georgia College & State University (9-5-2) at 7 p.m. Top-seeded Clayton State University (11-3-4) will host the tournament semifinals on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday.
