Two Patriot Booters Earn D-1 Honors

FLORENCE, S.C. – Two Francis Marion University women’s soccer players have been named to the 2005 Division I All-Independent Team.

Senior midfielder Mollie Jones was named to the 15-member first team, while senior forward Katie Riley received honorable mention recognition.

The Patriots completed their first year of transitioning to NCAA Division I affiliation with a 5-9-1 record.

Jones started all 15 matches and tallied four goals and six assists, while directing the Patriot offensive attack. She was the leading scorer among all Division I independent school midfielders.

Jones, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, played in 70 career matches (69 starts) and recorded nine goals and 25 assists.

Riley led the Patriots in scoring this past season with seven goals and two assists, and ranked third in points among all Division I independent school players.

Earlier this fall, Riley was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Team (third team) for the University Division.

The Hampstead, Md., native ended her career second on the Patriot all-time lists for goals scored (45), points (110), and shots (219). She also started 69 of her 70 career matches.
