FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior goalkeeper Jonathan Runion ranked seventh nationally in saves per match according to the final 2005 NCAA Division II men’s soccer statistical report.
Runion, a native of Findlay, Ohio, played every minute of the 2005 season in goal for the Patriots. He recorded 134 saves, the most by a Patriot keeper in 18 seasons, for a per match average of 6.7.
He posted a 1.73 goals against average and recorded three shutouts this past season. He finished his career holding nearly every Patriot career goalkeeping record: saves (382), matches started in goal (66), matches played in goal (72), and minutes played in goal (6,446). His career save total is second-best in PBC history.
William Bloom of Ohio Valley University led the saves per match category with an average of 8.26.
The FMU men’s soccer team finished the year 8-11-1 against a difficult schedule that included nine matches against nationally ranked opponents. The Patriots advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals.
