FMU to host Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Jan. 12

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce will host the eighth-annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Thursday, Jan. 12.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the McNair Science Building auditorium. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

For the second consecutive year, poet and storyteller Glenis Redmond will be the special guest. Redmond tells stories with poetry – from her life, her family, her African-American heritage and sensitive observations of the world around her.

This year’s celebration will also feature an essay contest, “A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” The top essay will be read at the celebration. The winner will receive a prize, a trophy, and local recognition.

For more information about the celebration, call the chamber at 843-665-0515.
