Harriet Keyserling to give gender studies lecture at FMU, Jan. 31
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Gender Studies Program and the Department of Political Science at Francis Marion University will sponsor a lecture by former state representative Harriet Keyserling on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
The lecture, titled “Gender and Politics in South Carolina,” will begin at 3:45 p.m. in the McNair Science Building auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
Keyserling, who will speak about her experiences in South Carolina government, will be introduced by FMU president Fred Carter.
Keyserling was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1976 and represented District 124, Beaufort County, until her retirement in 1993. During her legislative career, Keyserling was a committed advocate of educational improvement, the arts, rules reform, and environmental protection. Her autobiography, “Against the Tide: One Woman’s Political Struggle,” was published by the University of South Carolina Press in 1998.
Keyserling will sign copies of her book immediately following her lecture. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
