FMU Trustees To Meet Feb. 3
FLORENCE---The Francis Marion University Board of Trustees will hold its quarterly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in the Stokes Administration Building Board Room.
The trustees will consider four resolutions, including one authorizing the university to enter a partnership with the City of Florence to build a performing arts center in downtown Florence.
Other resolutions to be considered include adjusting fees for housing and meal plans for the 2006-2007 academic year; naming the university arboretum in honor of Lawrence F. Swails, a retired faculty member who served for many years as chairman of the FMU Biology Department; and naming the clinical laboratory in the new nursing building in memory of the late Elizabeth Williamson Barnes, a distinguished nursing practitioner and educator who was vice president of nursing for the Bruce Hospital System upon her death in 1990.
The trustees will also hear reports from their standing committees and from the university president.
Committee meetings will be held earlier in the day Friday. The Executive Affairs Committee will meet at 9 a.m. in the Stokes Board Room, followed by a 9:30 a.m. meeting of the Financial Affairs and Facilities Committee. The Academic Affairs and Accreditation Committee also will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Provost’s Conference Room in Stokes Building. At 10:30 a.m., the Development and Alumni Committee will meet in the Stokes Board Room, while the Student Affairs and Athletics Committee meets in the Provost’s Conference Room.
Following the board meeting, the trustees will honor mathematics professor William Fox and English professor William Ramsey, the two newly appointed Trustee Research Scholars, during a luncheon at the Cottage on campus.
