FMU to celebrate Homecoming 2006, Feb. 23-25

    FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University will celebrate Homecoming 2006, Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 23-25.

    The events will kick off Thursday with a wine and cheese reception for School of Education alumni at 4:30 p.m. at The Cottage on the FMU campus.

    Friday at 8 p.m., in the McNair Science Building auditorium, FMU’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will present “Homecoming Step Show 2006.” Tickets for this step show are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. To purchase tickets, call Precious Cristwell at 843-661-1188.

    A coffee and dessert reception at The Cottage for all alumni will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The classes of 1976, 1986, and 1996, as well as athletic teams from 1976, 1980, 1981, 1986, and 1996 will be honored.

    Saturday’s festivities begin at 11 a.m. with the women’s basketball alumni game in the Smith University Center gymnasium and a softball alumni game on the FMU Softball Field, followed by the men’s basketball alumni game at 11:30 a.m.

    The highlight of the day, PatriotFest, begins at 12:30 p.m. at the university center. Alumni can enjoy a picnic lunch while reminiscing with former professors and fellow graduates. PatriotFest will also feature live music by Flowtown and activities for children and adults.

    From noon to 5 p.m., alumni can take advantage of a 20-percent discount on selected items at the Patriot Bookstore. From 1:30 to 5 p.m., a silent auction of sports memorabilia and other items will be held in the north end of the Smith University Center gymnasium. Bids on exclusive items will support Patriot athletics.

    A basketball doubleheader with Clayton State University will begin with the women’s game at 2 p.m. and the men’s contest at 4 p.m. Between the two games, the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame induction will be held. The 2006 inductees are former women’s basketball players Chiffonia Adderson ’02 and Jennifer Brabson. During halftime of the men’s game, the 2006 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned. Admission to the games is free.

    At 6:30 p.m. in the university center commons, a Swamp Fox Club Celebration will begin, featuring a live auction to benefit the athletic program. Participants will have the chance to bid on vacation packages and rare sports memorabilia. Admission is $5 for Swamp Fox Club members and $10 for non-members.
