Dean Barry O'Brien presents award to Sherry Jones
Jones named FMU School of Business Outstanding Alumnus

    FLORENCE, S.C. – Sherry Miller Jones of Darlington has been named the Francis Marion University School of Business Outstanding Alumnus for 2006.

    The award was presented during a breakfast on March 31.

    Jones graduated from FMU in 1989 with a B.S. degree in accounting. She returned to FMU and earned an M.B.A. degree in 1995. 

    Jones started her career at Florence Concrete Products in 1981. She was hired as part-time clerical help and over time was promoted to accountant, personnel manager, and then vice president of special projects. In 1996, Jones was named president of the business.

    Florence Concrete Products Inc. has been in business for 50 years, is a $20 million a year company, and employs 200 people. It manufactures and erects bridges, commercial buildings and prisons. It also has a retail brick and block business in Florence as well as a tilt-up division.

    In addition to her work, Jones is active in her community. She is a past chairperson for Georgias/Carolinas PCI, a graduate of Leadership Florence, a past member of the Pilot Club of Darlington and is an active member of Temple Freewill Baptist in Darlington.

    Jones is married to J.J. Jones, a conductor with CSX. They live in Darlington with their 6-year-old son, Jake. Jones is the daughter of Henry and Jerry Miller.
