FLORENCE---Kathy Andrews has been named director of publications and marketing in the communications office at Francis Marion University, effective June 1. She replaces Eunice Rabon who resigned.
Andrews has a wide-ranging communications background, mostly in Washington, D.C., but the last three years in Florence. A native of Pamplico, Andrews has more than 20 years in the communications and public relations field, including print, broadcast, website, special events, marketing, advertising and fundraising experience.
From 2001 to 2003, she managed public relations for the United Negro College Fund, one of the nation’s top nonprofit organizations supporting 65,000 students at 900 universities and colleges. Prior to that, she was senior producer for America’s Voice and a reporter for WJLA-TV (ABC) in Washington.
A 1982 graduate of Howard University, she’s also an accomplished photographer. Throughout her career, she has interviewed national business and political figures and covered many major events as a reporter, including working the red carpet at the Academy Awards and Grammys as nine-year host/producer of a nationally broadcast show “Screen Scene” on BET network.
She also was Hilton Head Island bureau chief for South Carolina ETV for six years.
Since returning to Florence in 2003, she’s handled communications for the nonprofit Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault as well as serving as a communications and marketing consultant to a number of other organizations.
