FMU Performing Arts Center Board to meet Aug. 31
FLORENCE, S.C. – The first meeting of the seven-member governing board of the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center will be held Thursday, Aug. 31.
Scheduled at 5 p.m. in the Stokes Administration Building board room on the FMU campus, the board will hold its first organizational meeting to plan for the building and operation of the downtown center to be located at the corner of Palmetto and Dargan streets.
The agenda includes introduction of board members, FMU/City of Florence memorandum of understanding, construction chronology, architect selection process, board responsibilities, board committee structure, and future meetings.
Members of the board are: FMU President Fred Carter, who will serve as chairman; Marva Smalls, executive vice president of public affairs and chief of staff of Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, TV Land, Noggin and Spike TV; Ben Zeigler, a Florence attorney; Larry Anderson, chairman of FMU’s Fine Arts Department; Billy D. Williams, Florence City Councilman; Shirley R. Imbeau, a longtime community arts activist; and Michael O. Blakeley, senior vice president and city executive with Sentry Bank and Trust.
