FLORENCE, S.C. – Michael W. Richey has been named director of facilities engineering and maintenance at Francis Marion University.
Richey, of Greenwood, will be responsible for managing the planning and implementation phases necessary to complete university facilities construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects. He will also be responsible for providing leadership and supervision for the building maintenance section.
He spent 21 years in the U.S. Army, most recently as a deputy operations manager with the 18th Engineer Brigade in Afghanistan and Germany. Prior to that, he was a facilities manager with the 3D Corps Support Command in Iraq and Germany. He has also served as a project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Texas, and as an engineer officer in various locations throughout the U.S. and overseas.
Richey has managed construction and renovation projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers budgeted over $26 million and he has more than 15 years of planning experience, taking projects from design to construction.
Richey earned the B.S. degree in civil engineering from Clemson University, and has completed numerous Army engineer officer training courses.
He is a member of the U.S. Army Engineer Association and the American Legion. He also is a two-time Bronze Star Medal recipient, a Combat Action Badge recipient, and an eight-time Meritorious Service Medal recipient.
Richey and his wife, Sarah, have three children: Jon, 16, Hannah, 12, and Tucker, 7.
