FLORENCE, S.C. – The Wilbur Hicks Music Scholarship has been established at Francis Marion University by an anonymous donor.

            Hicks, who is deceased, was a native of Florence County, and a poet, songwriter, musician, preacher, barber and farmer. His desire was to write music and have it published. As his music was never published, it is the donor’s desire that the scholarship recipient have the opportunity Hicks never had.

            The scholarship recipient must have a major concentration in music, must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, must demonstrate financial need, and must be a resident of the Pee Dee.

            The scholarship will be endowed in the amount of $100,000.
