Moore surpasses 1,000 career points

    FLORENCE, S.C. – With her 19-point performance last Saturday afternoon, Francis Marion University senior forward Danielle Moore became the 23rd Patriot woman to score 1,000 points in a career.

    Moore, a native of Owings Mills, Md., reached the mark during a 74-73 Peach Belt Conference win over Georgia College & State University, Jan. 7 in Florence. With a fast-break layup midway through the second half, Moore became the  first FMU cager to surpass 1,000 points since Christy Thomas reached that milestone in 2002.

    Moore added 10 rebounds during the win, to record her third double-double of the year and the fifth of her career.

    For the season, the 6-0 senior leads FMU in scoring (15.6 points per game) and rebounding (7.7 rebounds per game). In addition to her career points total, now at 1,006, she stands seventh on the team’s career list for blocked shots with 88, and is 25th in career assists (171) and 28th in career rebounds (473).

    Each of her first three years at Francis Marion, Moore was named to both the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll. The marketing major is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

     Moore is a product of The Bryn Mawr School, where she played for coach Jim Smith.

     Francis Marion (4-6, 2-2) returns to action on Wednesday when the Patriots play host to USC Aiken at 5:30 p.m.
