Francis Marion Hosts Pacers for PBC Hoops Twinbill

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will both play host to USC Aiken for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader, Wednesday evening (Jan. 11).

    The women’s game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.

The FMU women’s team (4-6, 2-2) is coming off a last-second PBC win over Georgia College & State University on Saturday. Senior Danielle Moore continues to lead FMU with averages of 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

The USCA women (5-6, 1-3) feature a balanced scoring attack with three players averaging in double figures: junior guard Mindy Allee (11.4 ppg, 3.9 assists per game), freshman Satu Leppanen (11.4 ppg), and freshman Meredith Legg (11.3 ppg).

FMU leads the women’s series 37-15, but each squad won on its home floor last season. The Patriots are 107-23 in their last 130 home games in the Smith University Center.

The Patriot men (6-5, 1-3) have dropped their last two PBC contests, while USCA (2-8, 0-4) has lost its last seven games. FMU leads the all-time series 36-24, including seven straight wins dating back to the 2001-02 season.

Senior Vony Rivers leads the Patriots in scoring with a 14.5 points per game average, while senior George Walker is averaging 13.1 ppg. Last Saturday, senior point guard Michael Jenkins (9.2 ppg) moved into ninth place on the Patriot career list for assists with 218.

USCA is led in scoring and rebounding by senior guard Richard Blocker (12.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg), while Socastee High School product Lukas Varga is averaging 10.1 ppg.
