FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior left-hander Lee Tabor has been named the Peach Belt Conference "Pitcher of the Week" for the opening week of the 2006 season, Jan. 30-Feb. 5.
Tabor, a 6-1 170-pound Manning native, pitched seven innings on Sunday against St. Andrews Presbyterian College in his first outing of 2006. He allowed only one hit and one unearned run, while striking out 15 and walking none. His strikeout total was two shy of the FMU single-game record. He and reliever Michael Williams combined to fan a Patriot-record 18 St. Andrews batters.
Tabor got a no-decision in the game that FMU lost 2-1 on an unearned run in the ninth inning.
In 2005, Tabor compiled a 9-4 record with a 2.47 earned run average. He struck out 74 batters in 87.1 innings, while completing six of his 14 starts. He earned All-PBC, first-team All-Region, and honorable mention All-America recognition.
The 14th-ranked Patriots are 2-1 and will return to action on Wednesday with a road game at St. Andrews in Laurinburg, N.C.
