FMU Athletics to Hold Auction on Saturday (Feb. 25)
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University Athletic Department will hold its eighth-annual Swamp Fox Club Benefit Auction, Saturday (Feb. 25).
The auction is being held in conjunction with that day’s Homecoming 2006 festivities and the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader with Clayton State University. The women’s game will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m.
The auction will consist of two parts: a silent auction beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 5 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. The silent auction will be held in the Smith University Center gymnasium and the live auction will be held in the Smith University Center commons area.
Participants will have the opportunity to place bids on items in the silent auction until bidding closes at 5 p.m., and then the merchandise will be awarded.
Tickets for the live auction are $5 for Swamp Fox Club members (Coaches Club level and above) and $10 for all others. Participants in the live auction must be 21 years old. Tickets are available from the Francis Marion athletic office (843-661-1240) and can also be purchased at the door.
There is no admission charge to the silent auction, and admission to that day’s basketball games is also free.
All proceeds from the event will go to assist student-athletes and the Patriot athletic program. This year, nearly 100 items have been donated from local and national outlets.
Among the items in the silent auction will be gift certificates, sports apparel, and numerous autographed items (Harry Carson football, Jeff Gordon shirt, Andruw Jones baseball, Wade Boggs baseball and hat, Philadelphia 76ers basketball, Sylvia Hatchell basketball).
Among the items in the live auction are vacation/getaway packages; a fishing trip; a golf package; two tickets to a Charlotte Bobcats game and autographed Raymond Felton shoes; David Justice autographed baseball; Peyton Manning autographed football, autographed Steve Spurrier collage; and Bobby Richardson autographed baseball and bat.
