FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s softball team will host a pair of non-conference doubleheaders this weekend.
The Patriots (15-7) will entertain Kutztown University (7-5) on Saturday at 1 p.m., and local-rival Coker College (18-7), Sunday at 1 p.m. Both twinbills will be played on the FMU Softball Field and admission is free.
Freshman lead-off batter Shannan Tyson leads FMU with a .387 average, while sophomore shortstop Allie Aleman is hitting .329 with four home runs and a team-leading 19 runs batted in.
The Patriot pitching staff is anchored by junior right-hander Jessica Johnson with an 8-3 record and a 1.95 earned run average, while freshman righty Serena Lim is 6-4 with a 2.07 ERA.
FMU trails in the all-time series with Coker 25-20, but the Patriots have won six of the last eight meetings. Francis Marion and Kutztown have met only once before with the Patriots claiming a 4-2 win in 1996.
