Patriots Achieve New High (No. 6) in Baseball Poll, Host Barton
FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University climbed three positions to sixth in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday, the highest ranking ever for the Patriot program.
Francis Marion went 4-0 last week to improve to 32-11 overall and 15-6 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Patriots have won eight straight games, and 18 of their last 21 contests, and in the PBC standings trail first-place Georgia College & State University by only one game.
Francis Marion will play host to Barton College (31-21), Tuesday at 3 p.m. on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. All FMU faculty and staff attending the game will receive a hot dog and soft drink, free of charge.
The previous highest ranking for an FMU diamond squad was seventh, in February of 2004. Dating back to last season, the Patriots have appeared in 27 consecutive national polls.
The Patriots will play a key PBC series at 16th-ranked USC Aiken this weekend, with a single game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
FMU is 92-20-1 in its last 113 home games.
