FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University sophomore right-hander Dylan Owen has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Pitcher of the Week” for the week of April 10-17, the third time a Patriot hurler has earned the award this season.
Owen, a 5-11 185-pound Chesterfield native, pitched a five-hit, 6-0 shutout on the road against UNC Pembroke on April 14. He struck out nine and walked no one, while throwing only 82 pitches in the seven-inning contest (second game of a doubleheader).
For the season, Owen owns an 8-1 mark with a 2.21 earned run average. He has fanned 87 batters in only 77.1 innings. He shares the conference lead in strikeouts with teammate Lee Tabor.
The sixth-ranked Patriots, 32-11 heading into Tuesday afternoon’s game with Barton College, have won eight straight games and 18 of their last 21 contests. FMU is 15-6 in the PBC, one game behind conference-leading Georgia College & State University.
In 2005, Owen recorded a 6-4 mark with a 3.01 ERA and was selected as one of the PBC’s “Co-Freshmen of the Year.” He also earned “Pitcher of the Week” honors once during his freshman season.
Owen is a product of Chesterfield High School.
