FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior right fielder Nick Stewart has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Player of the Week” for the week of April 17-23.
Stewart, a 6-3 215-pound Greenville native, batted .643 (9-for-14) last week in four games. He recorded two doubles, two triples, five runs batted in, seven runs scored, and a 1.071 slugging percentage. During this past weekend’s series at 16th-ranked USC Aiken, Stewart went 6-for-10.
For the season, Stewart owns an 11-game hitting streak and leads the Patriots in hitting (.368), runs scored (46), doubles (15), home runs (5), and slugging percentage (.598). He has also driven in 35 runs and stolen 11 bases (in 14 attempts). In the field, he has committed only one error in 81 chances (.988 fielding percentage) with three outfield assists.
He currently ranks second in the Peach Belt in slugging percentage, third in triples, and fifth in doubles.
The sixth-ranked Patriots (35-12) are currently taking a break for final exams. The 35 wins equal the team record for victories in a season. FMU will conclude its regular-season schedule with a three-game PBC series against USC Upstate, May 3-4, in Florence. The Peach Belt Conference Tournament will be held May 11-14 in Aiken.
Francis Marion has won 11 of its last 12 games, and 21 of 25 contests. At 17-7, FMU is second in the PBC standings, two games behind conference-leading Georgia College & State University.
Stewart is a product of Greenville High School.
