FLORENCE, S.C. – The sixth-ranked Francis Marion University baseball team will conclude its regular-season schedule with a three-game home series against Peach Belt Conference foe USC Upstate, Wednesday and Thursday (May 3-4).
The two squads will play a single game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. on Cormell Field and a doubleheader on Thursday at 1 p.m. Between games of the twinbill, FMU will recognize its five seniors: infielders Jason Weaver and Omar Quiles, left-handed pitcher Ryan Ariail, and outfielders Brent Johnson and Stan Markle.
The Patriots are 35-12 overall and have secured second place in the PBC standings with a 17-7 mark. USC Upstate (31-20, 12-12) is currently sixth in the PBC, and needs one win in the series to qualify for next week's Peach Belt Tournament. The six-team tournament will be held May 11-14 at USC Aiken's Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
Francis Marion will be looking to establish a new school record for wins in a season, eclipsing the old mark of 35 set previously in 1988.
