FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University golf team will play host to the 22nd-annual Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament, Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 18-19), at the Country Club of South Carolina.
The 54-hole event will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Play will begin on Monday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The CCSC course is a par 72 layout measured at 7,062 yards.
The tournament field includes FMU, Appalachian State University, Birmingham-Southern College, Charleston Southern University, College of Charleston, Davidson College, Elon University, Furman University, Georgia College & State University, Jacksonville University, Old Dominion University, Samford University, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, University of Texas-Pan American, Troy University, Western Carolina University, Wofford College, and three-time defending NCAA Division II national champion USC Aiken. USCA also captured last year’s Raines Development Group tournament title.
The Patriot squad will consist of junior Jacob Tveit (Romelanda, Sweden), sophomores Ronan O’Connor (Dublin, Ireland) and Keith Crowley (Balincollig, Ireland), and freshmen Christopher Couch (Summerville, SC) and Jonathan Lavin (Askim, Sweden), while senior Ricky Fox (Clinton Township, Mich.) will compete as an individual.
FMU placed 17th at last week’s season-opening Scenic City Invitational, hosted by UTC.
The Patriot golf team is in its second year of transitioning from Division II to Division I, after competing in Division II for the previous 14 seasons.
