FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior outside hitter Jessica Lombardi was recently named to the 2007 All-Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Team.
Lombardi, a 5-11 native of Massillon, Ohio, paced the Patriots in four different statistical categories. She also led the PBC in kills per game (3.88), while ranking third in service aces per game (0.45), 13th in hitting percentage (.218), and 14th in digs per game (3.27). She was one of only two PBC athletes to be ranked in all four categories. She also led the team with 20 double-doubles (kills and digs).
Lombardi also led the conference in total kills with 497, the 13th highest season total in Peach Belt history. Nationally, she ranks 81st in kills per game. She will enter her senior year in 2008 only 29 kills shy of 1,000 for her career.
Lombardi was twice named the PBC Player of the Week this past season and was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the FMU Invitational early in the season. Lombardi recorded the first triple-double (15 kills, 11 aces, 10 digs) in school history against Converse College on Oct. 6, with the 11 aces being a school record and tying the PBC record.
Francis Marion ended the year 13-21, finishing fourth during the Peach Belt regular season.
Lombardi is a former All-Federal League selection and Stark County Player of the Year at Jackson High School.
