Branding - Francis Marion University
Kathy Andrews, Director of Marketing
In the last year, we've unveiled a new look with a new logo and a new tagline for FMU. The foundation of FMU's new look is based on our namesake, General Francis Marion, a revolutionary war hero who used the South Carolina wilderness to evade British troops.
The logo, colors, and fonts are the primary graphic elements of the University brand. By consistently using the logo, colors, and university fonts, we will identify and reinforce public awareness of FMU and its departments. When these unique graphic elements are consistently used, an effective visual style is established.
In these volatile economic times, higher education has become a highly competitive industry. FMU must recruit and retain the best and brightest students, faculty, and staff. The university must build and maintain widespread public and legislative support. In addition, FMU needs a loyal following and a close connection with alumni and donors.
In order to accomplish its goals of recruitment and public support, FMU must create a consistent, powerful identity that provides us with a competitive edge. Our brand tells people who we are and the qualities that set us apart. This effort is more important than ever and vital to our continued success.
Francis Marion is not simply our name. Rather, it is what our name brings to mind and what people associate with it.
What we would like to do is create a visual identity that allows all parts of our university to be linked, but be distinct. By working together on the visual image, we will all share collectively in the power of our new brand.
Through our efforts we strive to communicate a clear, compelling identity in an increasingly competitive environment. We want to create a positive first impression easily remembered and build on our rich Pee Dee history. Through our positive branding efforts, we will build credibility with all of our constituents in South Carolina and nationally.
