FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior right-hander Dylan Owen has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Pitcher of the Week” for the week of Feb. 5-11.
Owen, a 6-0 195-pound Chesterfield native, pitched a two-hit, 4-0 shutout against St. Andrews Presbyterian College last Friday in the opening game of the PBC-CVAC Challenge (Gerald Griffin Classic). He faced only two batters over the minimum, struck out 11, and walked no one. His bid for a second career no-hitter was broken up by an infield single with two outs in the seventh inning.
For the season, Owen has a 1-1 mark despite not allowing an earned run in 15 innings (0.00 earned run average). He has fanned 18 batters.
Last year, Owen posted a 12-3 record with a 2.30 ERA and was named a first-team All-American. In 2005, Owen recorded a 6-4 mark with a 3.01 ERA and was selected as one of the PBC’s “Co-Freshmen of the Year.” He has earned “Pitcher of the Week” honors three times during his career.
The 11th-ranked Patriots are 4-2 and open PBC play this weekend by hosting a three-game series with Augusta State University. The two squads will play a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m. Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have appeared in 36 consecutive national polls.
Owen is a product of Chesterfield High School.
