FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior outfielder Justin Greene has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Player of the Week” for the week of April 16-22.
Greene, a 6-0 170-pound Goose Creek native, batted .545 in four games last week, all road wins for the Patriots. He hit a double, a home run, and drove in six runs, while compiling a .909 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.
Greene almost single-handedly gave FMU an April 21 doubleheader sweep of North Georgia College & State University. He drove in all three runs in 3-0 game-one win with a sacrifice fly and two-run homer, then drove in the winning runs with two-run single in eighth inning of 6-4 game-two win. He was walked intentionally three times in the final game of the series, but managed one hit to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
For the season, Greene is batting .337 with four home runs, 33 RBIs, and a team-leading 47 runs scored in 48 games. He owns a team-high .460 on-base percentage as he has been walked 25 times and been hit-by-pitches a PBC-high 15 times.
The 19th-ranked Patriots are 33-15 with one three-game PBC series remaining on the schedule, May 3-4 at Lander University. FMU is currently third in the Peach Belt standings with a 16-11 conference mark. Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have appeared in 46 consecutive national polls.
Greene is a product of Stratford High School.
