FLORENCE, S.C. – First-year Francis Marion University women’s basketball coach Heather Macy has announced that point guard Shaquana Morgan of Brooklyn, N.Y., will join the FMU program this fall after transferring from Delaware State University.
Morgan, 5-8, played two seasons for the NCAA Division I Hornets, both of which were 20-win seasons. This past year, she averaged 1.3 points and 0.8 rebounds in 21 games for a 20-13 DSU squad that won the MEAC Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
She appeared in 25 games as a freshman and averaged 1.6 ppg and 0.9 rpg.
Morgan is a product of Abraham Lincoln High School, where she posted career averages of 19.4 ppg and 11.0 assists per game. She tallied 1,352 career points, 45 doubles-doubles and 10 triple-doubles, and was a three-time first-team New York Newsday All-City selection. She helped lead her prep squad to the 2003-04 Brooklyn Borough championship.
“Shaquana is one of the best passers I have seen in a long time,” said Macy. “The way she sees the floor is amazing. She will definitely be a fan favorite at FMU.”
Macy inherits a squad that loses no starters from last year’s 6-22 team. FMU earlier announced the addition of five new players to the Patriot roster for 2007-08.
