Library Liaison

Library Liaison with Academic Departments

Library liaison provides two-way communication between an academic department and the Library. The program puts your department in immediate contact with a librarian who is the starting point for assistance with and information about library services, collections, resources, and policies.

Academic departments can assist the library by providing your library liaison with information about the courses you are teaching, your library-related research needs, or departmental programs that might require library support in the form of new books, journals, or databases. Academic departments partner with the Library in the area of up-to-date collection development by recommending materials for purchase and assisting in the withdrawal process of obsolete materials in your area of discipline.

Library liaison links a representative faculty member from each department (the departmental liaison) with a librarian assigned to your department (the librarian liaison). Departmental liaisons are designated by their departments. In large departments, more than one liaison may be appointed.
