General Francis Marion Memorial Day Observed in Library
Rogers Library held its fourth annual celebration of General Francis Marion Memorial Day on Sunday, February 27th, 2011 with an Open House of the Special Collections. The event commemorated the life of Revolutionary War leader on the anniversary of his death in 1795. Archival documents and rare books from the library's collections were on display in the Arundel Room.
In addition, Dr. William Bolt, FMU instructor of history, delivered a lecture in the Thomason Auditorium of the Lee Nursing Building. The talk was titled "The Founding Generation and Why it Resonates Today." Also, there were two showings of the 2005 SCETV documentary "Chasing the Swamp Fox." Additionally, a display provided information about the work of the Francis Marion Trail Commision.
