May 8, 2008 - Fourth-seeded North Georgia College & State University pushed across two runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings to claim a 6-2 win over third-seeded Francis Marion University, Thursday afternoon (May 8) in an opening-round game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Lake Olmstead Stadium. FMU will take on top-seeded Columbus State University, Friday at 3 p.m. at USC Aiken’s Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

April 22, 2008 - Francis Marion University senior center fielder Justin Greene has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, for the period of April 14-20. Greene batted .615 (8-for-13) in a three-game series at ASU as Francis Marion won two of three games. He homered in every game, scored nine runs, and drove in nine.

April 23, 2008 - Francis Marion University’s Z-Z pitching duo of Zane Petty and Zach Farry combined on a 12-hit shutout as the 30th-ranked Patriots blanked Augusta State University 5-0 to earn a split of their Sunday afternoon (April 20) Peach Belt Conference doubleheader. ASU scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break an 8-8 deadlock and the Jaguars went on to a 12-10 win in game one. With the split, FMU ends its regular season 32-18 overall and 16-11 in the PBC, currently tied for third place. That finish assures Francis Marion a spot in the six-team Peach Belt Conference Tournament, May 8-11 in Aiken and Augusta.

April 19, 2008 - Senior center fielder Justin Greene belted three home runs, scored five times, and drove in seven runs as 30th-ranked Francis Marion University blasted Augusta State University 27-9, Saturday (April 19) in Peach Belt Conference baseball action. In near-record setting fashion, FMU improved to 31-17 overall and 15-10 in the PBC with its sixth win in the last seven outings.

April 14, 2008 - AMERICUS, GA - Senior Greg Phelps and junior Jared Barkdoll each rapped out four hits and Francis Marion University used a 13-run fifth inning to take a 19-10 win over Georgia Southwestern State University and earn a split of their Sunday afternoon Peach Belt Conference doubleheader. The Hurricanes scored seven runs in the first two frames of game one en route to an 11-4 victory.

April 7, 2008 - Sophomore right-hander Zane Petty and senior lefty Zach Farry combined on an eight-hitter and 23rd-ranked Francis Marion University used an unusual variety of ways to score as the Patriots edged Georgia College & State University 4-3, Monday afternoon (April 7) in the final game of a three-game Peach Belt Conference baseball series. FMU improves to 26-16 overall and 12-9 in the PBC and moves into third place in the conference standings, percentage points ahead of AASU.

series on Saturday with a split over #22 Francis Marion. CSU took
game one 4-2, but fell in the nightcap 10-3. The Cougars beat the
Patriots 9-0 last night on Good Friday. CSU is 23-10 overall and 8-4
in league play.

Getting a career-high 13 strikeouts in eight strong innings from senior southpaw Scott Wandless, USCA won the opener of the highly-anticipated three-game series between the highly-ranked teams.

March 2, 2008 - FLORENCE, SC – Three Francis Marion University pitchers blanked eighth-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University on eight hits as the seventh-ranked Patriots claimed a 2-0 victory in the opening game of Saturday’s (March 1) Peach Belt Conference doubleheader. The Pirates salvaged the third game of the series by blasting six FMU hurlers for a 15-2 win in the nightcap.

February 6, 2008 - Despite recording only three hits and striking out 14 times, 24th-ranked Francis Marion University escaped with a 3-2 non-conference win over Newberry College, Tuesday evening (Feb. 5) spoiling the opening of Newberry's new Smith Road Complex. After 1,022 days without a baseball game on the campus of Newberry, what had once been only a dream became a reality, as the Indians hosted the first game on campus since April of 2005, but a three-run sixth inning by FMU dampened the atmosphere. FMU improves to 3-1, while Newberry drops to 1-3.

February 2, 2008 - VALDOSTA, GA – Buoyed by an hitting attack that produced 19 runs on opening day, 25th-ranked Francis Marion University swept a doubleheader from Valdosta State University on Saturday afternoon, winning 10-2 and 9-8. It is the first time in the 36-year history of the Patriot baseball program that FMU has opened a season with a road doubleheader sweep.

January 28, 2008 - Junior catcher Jared Barkdoll (of Greencastle, Pa.) was recently selected to the 2008 preseason All-Peach Belt Conference baseball team. The team was chosen by the league’s Sports Information Directors and features players from seven of the 10 baseball-playing schools in the PBC.

January 28, 2008 - Francis Marion University has been picked to finish fifth in the battle for the Peach Belt Conference baseball title, according to the annual preseason poll by the conference’s coaches. FMU, which did receive one first-place vote and finished only eight points out of second place, opens its 2008 schedule on Saturday (Feb. 2) at Valdosta State University.

Francis Marion Ranked 25th in preseason NCAA II Baseball Poll
The Francis Marion University baseball team is ranked 25th in the preseason 2008 Collegiate Baseball Magazine Division II Top 40 poll. The Patriots ended the 2007 season with a 36-18 record, the second-highest win total in the program’s history. FMU placed third during the Peach Belt Conference regular season and ended the year ranked 29th nationally. Eight of the squad’s losses were to nationally ranked opponents. Dating back to the 2005 season, the Patriots have appeared in 50 consecutive national polls. Five PBC squads are listed in the preseason poll, and five opponents on FMU’s 2008 schedule appear in the poll.

January 3, 2008 - Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the addition of four players for the 2009 campaign, all of whom committed during the recent early signing period: infielder Barrett Kleinknecht of Florence, right-handed pitcher Brad Rollison of Simpsonville, catcher Jacob Wallace of Moore, and catcher Frankie Torres of Charlotte, N.C.
Torres is currently a high school senior, while the other three will transfer in with two years of eligibility.

October 30, 2007 - The Francis Marion University baseball team recently held its sixth-annual blood drive on Oct. 29. Thirty-nine players participated, donating a total of 39 units to the Pee Dee chapter of the American Red Cross. Through this annual event, the baseball program has donated more then 190 units over the past six years.

October 10, 2007 - Former Francis Marion University baseball players returned to Florence and Cormell Field and enjoyed a very hospitable Alumni Weekend 2007. In the annual alumni game, the current cast of Patriot players beat the "Old Timers" 18-2.

June 29, 2007 - Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced that outfielder Daniel “Bucky” Wells of Surfside Beach and right-handed pitcher Zane Petty of Myrtle Beach, both products of Socastee High School, will join the Patriot baseball squad this fall. Wells is transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College, while Petty is moving from Coastal Carolina University.

August 1, 2007 - Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced that right-handed pitcher Phillip Mozingo of Florence will join the Patriot program this fall after transferring from Coastal Carolina University. Mozingo, 6-0 180-pounds, is a 2006 graduate of West Florence High School.

June 8, 2007 - Francis Marion University junior right-handed pitcher Dylan Owen was selected by the New York Mets in the 20th round of Major League Baseball’s 2007 First-Year Player Draft, Friday (June 8). He was selected as the 29th pick in the 20th round (No. 633 overall) on the second day of the 50-round draft.

May 30, 2007 - Francis Marion University senior baseball outfielder Nick Stewart (Greenville, S.C.) and junior basketball point guard Brittany Young (Moncks Corner, S.C.) have been named to the second-annual Peach Belt Conference All-Sportsmanship Team. One male and one female student-athlete from each of the league’s 12 member schools were placed on the team.

May 28, 2007 - FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior pitcher Dylan Owen has been selected the NCAA Division II national Pitcher of the Year by two different voting groups. The 6-0 right-hander from Chesterfield topped both the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association All-America Team and the inaugural Daktronics Inc. All-America squad.

May 16, 2007 - Three Francis Marion University Patriots were recently named to the 2007 Peach Belt Conference All-Conference baseball team. Senior catcher Michael Ward, senior outfielder Nick Stewart, and junior right-handed pitcher Dylan Owen were all named to the All-PBC squad. Owen was also named the PBC “Pitcher of the Year” for the second consecutive year.

May 14, 2007 - The 22nd-ranked Francis Marion University baseball team learned early Monday morning that it was not among those selected to the NCAA Division II national tournament. FMU finished the year 36-18 and placed third during the Peach Belt Conference regular season. The Patriots were looking for their fourth NCAA invitation in the past five years.
