FMU ends its season with a 39-16 record, the third-highest win total in school history, and by making the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

May 12, 2008 - Despite finishing third during the Peach Belt Conference regular season and reaching the PBC Tournament title game, the Francis Marion University baseball team was not among the six squads from the South Atlantic Region extended invitations to the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The 48-team field was released early Monday (May 12).
April 25, 2008 - Francis Marion University athletic officials recently announced the names of eight Patriot student-athletes named to the university’s chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. The 2008 inductees are baseball player Ryan Hypke (Champagne, Ill.), women’s basketball player Katherine Kiefer (Lilburn, Ga.), women’s softball players Lakyn Bendle (Amsterdam, Ohio) and Shawn Moore (Pamplico, S.C.), women’s soccer players Brandi Bonifay (Stuart, Fla.) and Kiersten Nedervelt (Montpelier, Va.), men’s tennis player Jordan Gandy (Darlington, S.C.), and women’s volleyball player Jessica Lombardi (Massillon, Ohio).

April 30, 2008 - The Francis Marion University women’s basketball team finished this past season as the top scoring team in NCAA Division II, while also leading the nation in thefts. Several Patriot players were also listed in the end-of-the-season statistical report, including junior point guard Kevina Ransom ranking atop the steals category.
March 10, 2008 - The Francis Marion University women’s basketball team learned late Sunday night that it has earned a bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, and that the Patriots will serve as the host for the eight-team South Atlantic Regional on Friday, Saturday, and Monday (March 14, 15, 17).
March 4, 2008 - Knoch set a school record in the 5,000-meters at last weekend’s SSU Eyeopener Track and Field Meet host by Savannah State University.
Knoch, a native of Wapakoneta, Ohio, won the event in a time of 19:22, smashing the old mark of 19:46 set by Beth Muncey in 1999.
February 29, 2008 - The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s basketball teams will close out their regular-season schedules on Saturday (March 1) when they play host to Clayton State University in a very important Peach Belt Conference doubleheader as part of Homecoming 2008 festivities. The women’s basketball game will tip-off at 2 p.m. in the Smith University Center, followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m. Admission to the doubleheader will be free.

Francis Marion University is continuing to build a database for for Patriot student-athletes. If you have not been in contact with the university in recent years, please contact the alumni office (843-661-1225), athletic office (843-661-1240), sports information director (mhawkins@fmarion.edu) or the individual head coach of your sport, so they may add you to their database.
The Francis Marion Athletic Department offers 12 intercollegiate sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and tennis for men; and basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball for women. The Patriot golf and women's soccer programs are provisional members of NCAA Division I, while the remaining 10 sports compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference.
