HARTSVILLE, SC – Senior guard Brittany Young scored a game-high 19 points, on 9 of 13 shooting, as Francis Marion University cruised to an easy 101-41 win over Converse College, Friday afternoon (Dec. 14) in the opening game of the Lady Cobra Classic at Coker College.

FMU improves to 5-1 with its fourth 100-point outburst, while Converse drops to 1-10.  FMU will play the host school on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Patriots did not look rusty after a 13-day layoff for exams as FMU made its first four shots, all within three feet of the basket.  FMU scored the game’s first 11 points and led 23-5 following a fast-break layup by Rita Grayson.

Converse made one brief run to close the margin to 25-16 after a three-pointer by Ashley Arff near the midway point of the half.  However, Francis Marion used a 20-0 spurt late in the opening stanza to lead 57-22 at intermission.

The final score represented the largest margin of the game.

Following Young, three Patriot reserves also scored in double figures: junior Creshenda Singletary with 15, freshman Shannon Singleton-Bates with 14, and Yasmena Dixon with 14 (on 6 of 7 shooting).

FMU held a 41-0 margin in fast-break points, and tallied 38 points off 31 Converse turnovers.

Freshman 5-10 forward Shai Walker paced Converse with 12 points, while Morgan Sacharski had 10 points and six rebounds.
