Patriot Women beat turnover-plagued Erskine 91-50
FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University, which leads the nation in scoring and steals, did little to hurt those rankings on Wednesday (Jan. 2) as the Patriots forced 49 Erskine College turnovers en route to a 91-50 non-conference win in women’s action.

FMU improves to 7-1 in its first action in 18 days.  Freshman Shannon Singleton-Bates, making her first career start, and sophomore reserve Yasmean Dixon each scored 18 points to pace FMU.  Singleton-Bates hit on 9-of-11 field goal attempts, while Dixon was 7-of-9 from the floor.

The Patriots used a 16-0 run midway through the first half to claim a 44-22 lead at intermission.  Francis Marion then connected on 18 of 30 second-half shots (60%) to pull away for the 41-point victory.

Sophomore guard Audrey Timmerman led Erskine (0-7) with 15 points and five assists, while junior center Lacey Williams added 10 points and eight rebounds.

FMU’s 30 steals was the most for a Patriot squad in at least 17 seasons, and was only 10 shy of the team mark set in 1988.  The Patriots held a 32-5 advantage in fast-break points.

Francis Marion will host Peach Belt Conference opponent Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
