MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Francis Marion University was held to a season-low point total on only 25.4 percent shooting and the Patriots fell on the road to Georgia College & State University 66-40, Saturday night (Jan. 19) in Peach Belt Conference men’s action.
Junior forward Ziyadah Carter came off the bench to lead FMU (8-5, 2-4) with 12 points. Junior guards Houston Power and Crayton Jones each scored seven points.
The contest started out close as the Patriots held the lead for the first eight minutes. With 12:04 left in the first half, GC&SU junior Justin Brown hit a jumper around an Aaron Clark screen for GC&SU’s first lead at 11-9. The Bobcats would never relinquish that advantage.
FMU connected on only 6-of-31 shots in the opening half and trailed 32-16 at intermission. While warming slightly in the second stanza, the Patriots never got any closer than 15 points.
The 6-10 Clark finished with 12 points and eight boards for GC&SU (11-2, 5-1), while Shaun Keaton added 11 points and five assists. The Bobcats are now 7-0 at home.
FMU plays host to Augusta State University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the team’s first-ever White-Out Night. All fans attending are encouraged to wear white, and the first 200 fans attending the game and wearing white will receive a free T-shirt.
