Patriot cross country teams place 4th and 7th at NC State meet

CARY, NC – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished fourth and seventh respectively at the adidas Wolfpack Invitational, Friday evening (Sept. 12) at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The host N.C. State squads captured both team titles with perfect 15 scores.  East Carolina University finished second in both races.

Junior Hillary Kiprop led the Patriot men as he finished 13th with a time of 16:13 for the 5,000-meter race.  He was the top non-Division I finisher.  Senior Fredy Torres of N.C. State won the men's race in a time of 15:21.

FMU senior Steven Holmes placed 28th (17:25), followed by senior Dan Brann in 37th position (17:50), sophomore Jerry Roth in 46th (18:18), sophomore Ben Miller in 47th (18:18), junior Adam Wilson in 61st (19:07), senior TJ Simmons in  90th (21:29), and sophomore Bryson Robinson in 98th (22:25).

Senior Kelly May again paced the FMU Women with a 28th-place showing.  She completed the 5,000-meter race in 20:48. Other Patriot finishers were junior Amanda Doyle in 48th place (22:37), freshman Samantha Smith in 51st (22:52), junior Holly Todd in 91st (27:27), junior Kim Richardson in 94th (27:40), and junior Amanda Booker in 101st (30:12).

Kara McKenna, an unattached runner, won the women's race with a time of 18:07.

Both Francis Marion squads will return to action on Sept. 20 when they run in the Battle at The Rock Meet (Limestone College Invitational) at 8 a.m. in Gaffney, S.C.
