CHARLOTTE, NC - Freshman Oni Bernard scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third to lead the Charlotte 49ers past Francis Marion University 6-0, Sunday evening (Sept. 21) in non-conference women’s soccer action.

Francis Marion falls to 0-8, while the 49ers improve to 4-3-1.  The match was originally set for Florence, but was moved to Charlotte because of the wet condition of the FMU Soccer Field.

Bernard scored the game's first goal when she put a Whitney Weinraub pass into the top left corner of the net just 27 seconds in the game.  Bernard added her second goal in the 10th minute with assists from Nikki Dumencich and Weinraub.

Weinraub beat a couple of Francis Marion defenders and put a shot into the lower left corner of the goal in the 11th minute. Charlotte upped the margin to 4-0 when Hailey Beam blasted a free kick into the right corner of the net from about 30 yards out in the 25th minute.

Jenna McKeon scored off a Hailey Beam assist in the 52nd minute, and Sam Huecker scored the game's final goal off a Whitney Bryant assist in the 71st minute.

The 49ers outshot Francis Marion 28-4 and Charlotte took all nine of the match’s corner kicks.

FMU junior goalkeeper Emily Brandenburg played the first half and freshman Casey Durham played the second half. Each registered four saves. Charlotte goalkeepers Lauren Brown (79 minutes) and Juli Black (11 minutes) combined for the shutout, with Brown having to make three saves.

FMU plays at Navy on Friday at 7 p.m.
