Blue Hose edge Patriot Women 1-0

CLINTON, S.C. – Junior forward Tricia Bryan scored an unassisted goal in the 61st minute to give Presbyterian College a 1-0 victory over Francis Marion University, Friday night (Oct. 3) in women’s soccer action at Martin Stadium.

Francis Marion outshot the Blue Hose 15-9, and Bryan’s goal was one of only two shots on goal the Patriots allowed. FMU freshman goalkeeper Casey Durham made one save in her first career start.

The Patriots also led 6-2 in corner kicks.

Bryan registered her second goal of the season by sidestepping a Francis Marion defender and firing off a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net.

After the goal, FMU had six shots, but were unable to come up with the tying score. Presbyterian (3-7-1) wins its second straight match and its first over the Patriots (0-10-1) since 2003.

Junior goalkeeper Abby Young made nine stops in goal for the Blue Hose, while the rest of Presbyterian’s defense forced six of the Patriots’ shots wide.

Francis Marion will play host to Liberty University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
